SKYCITY Entertainment Group
Sept 2015 - Jan 2017Table Games DealerIn this role I was responsible for delivering excellent customer service while maintaining table security and game accuracy. I performed accurate and swift cash handling, often with large amounts, and was responsible for company assets of considerable value while at a table (the chips in my float). I was also responsible for the well-being of my patrons, and was trained to identify and report signs of intoxication or gambling addiction. Punctuality, and the ability to follow correct procedures were important, especially with issue reporting. I was required to be be adaptable and able to move between tasks, as a typical shift often involved dealing several different games, cash and chip handling, table fills/credits, and opening/closing tables. I needed to stay focused for long periods of time, as I needed to be accurate and consistent throughout my shift. Finally, I displayed excellent communication skills, and was able to efficiently explain game rules to patrons, often without disrupting game flow, and have been praised for my skill at this. Nov 2015 - Feb 2016Summer Studentship - NZACThe key function of this role was to act as an assistant to the Head Technician Grace Hall, in the New Zealand Arthropod Collection. I was involved with several tasks, including accessioning new specimens (e.g. processing donations such as the John Nunn Collection, or processing samples brought in from the field); assisting with the preparation and packaging of loan specimens for dispatch internationally; Databasing work such as digitization of the collection using DinoCapture software; engaging in Citizen Science via taking members of the public (including children) on tour through the Collection (A highlight was getting the opportunity to be an entomology demonstrator at the Auckland War Memorial Museum's 2016 Explorama event, assisting Dr. Robert Hoare both at the demonstration table and outside during an insect collection walk); and practicing a range of entomological skills such as specimen identification to order, working with ethanol specimens, mounting specimens on pin or point, collection of specimens from the field, creating and applying labels (including use of TopoMap software to find latitude and longitude), and restoration of fungus-afflicted specimens. My excellent eyesight, fine motor skills, and observation skills were all valuable in this role. The University of Auckland
Sept 2016 - nowThe focus of this six month secondment was on high level strategic initiatives. These primarily focused in the disability space. I worked with senior leaders and their delegated representatives across Student Disability Services and Campus Life (student services), Human Resources and the Office of the Provost (education office). This role required a high level of communication, ability to influence and guide across many levels of the organisation, stakeholder engagement, research and presentation skills. Show less As part of a specialised team within Te Tumu Herenga | Libraries and Learning Services, I contributed towards the creation of online resources for students. This included learning objects within a course; learning resource hubs for programmes; and a major project: the creation of the University of Auckland's Learning Essentials site. This project spanned 2019 and involved a review of both existing material; a review of research into the area and methodologies used; partnership with students throughout the design process; the co-ordination of a large number of content specialists (both in smaller teams and across the project); editorial oversight for a coherent approach; content generation; training 20+ team members in the use of Wordpress and Divi; QA and accessibility reviews; metatagging and SEO, to create an easily navigable, transparent, user-friendly and appropriate-for-web resource that all students at the University of Auckland can use.https://learningessentials.auckland.ac.nz/ Show less Worked closely with a Learning Designer, Graphic Designer, and Content Specialists to develop courses through Articulate Storyline 360 as part of a project team creating online resources for the STEM Online NZ project- primarily for secondary students studying physics and mathematics while I was involved.Day to day, I resolved design challenges to create highly interactive content, and worked to integrate our resources with the CANVAS Learning Management System and SCORM Cloud. As the resources were both complex and sizable, my role increasingly involved identifying technical limitations and resolving these, providing creative solutions to deliver our content to a growing audience of students throughout New Zealand.www.stemonline.auckland.co.nz Show less In this role I performed a number of tasks as a member of a team within Library and Learning Services while working to produce the online resource 'write@uni': aimed at bridging the gap between the academic writing skills many first year students arrive with, and those needed to succeed in their university studies.I performed sound, image and video editing & compression, created animations, and made adjustments to the course. I proofread and edited parts of the site, and made adjustments to visuals, layout and content as required. I created interactive web objects including media galleries, presentations and activities. I helped draft ideas for content visualization, and arranged for usability testing of the various modules, which involved reaching out to students and staff members to build a database of interested students as well as scheduling testing sessions. I helped test the site for accessibility, and made PDF files screen-reader compatible. I formatted a series of webcomic style strips into a printable PDF booklet using InDesign. I worked with Adobe Photoshop, Articulate Storyline 2, Audacity, Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe Acrobat Pro (for editing PDF tags), Adobe InDesign, CourseBuilder and VideoScribe.https://flexiblelearning.auckland.ac.nz/writeatuni/ Show less
