Belkin graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in English cum laude in 1955. As a student at BU, she served as Secretary to the then University at Home Committee under President and Mrs. Harold Case. Arlette attained a Master’s degree in Education at Hofstra University while raising her family and subsequently held numerous positions in secondary school education. She was particularly passionate about her work with special needs children, assisting them with their communication and language skills. Born in Strasbourg, France, her love of the English language and literature began at the age of seven, when she arrived in New York in July 1941 to escape Nazi Germany; she entered 2rd grade at a public school in Manhattan speaking only French. Arlette loved global travel and always encouraged her family to see the world as a way to gain a larger perspective on life. The Arlette Belkin Study Abroad Scholarship honors her memory by supporting English students at her beloved alma mater to gain a broader worldview through global study. Show less
