Counseling Enriched Classroom Special Education Teacher

Collaborating with West Contra Costa Unified School District to pilot a new fourth through sixth grade classroom where students have individual and group counseling built into their school day. All students have a primary diagnosis of Emotionally Disturbed due to trauma or major life events. Their extreme behaviors, often manifested through violence and aggression, have prevented them from learning successfully in general education classes. Creating this classroom allows a safe space for students to receive therapy and behavior management techniques in hopes of returning them to general education classrooms. I am the case manager for all my students-- monitoring IEP goals and creating behavioral intervention plans as well as teaching all subjects in a special day class setting. Show less
