    • Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

      Apr 2008 - Nov 2022

As Vice President of Programs, I was primarily responsible for administering the bulk of FIRE's Speech, Outreach, Advocacy, and Research (SOAR) Project, a multiyear, interdisciplinary project funded by the $2.5 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation. This project expands FIRE's outreach operations into the high school college faculty, and alumni communities, and supports original research in the fields of history, psychology, and polling and data science. Following the end of the grant cycle, my focus shifted primarily to the management of FIRE's faculty outreach and programming, including the running of our annual Faculty Network Conference. Executive Director

In November 2022 I joined the MIT Free Speech Alliance as its Executive Director and first employee. MFSA, which is independent of MIT, was founded by a group of volunteer alumni to push for better free speech protections, and a better free speech climate overall at the institution, through events, outreach, and other community programming. MFSA will also be an observer of broader trends in free expression affecting campuses nationwide, and hopes to provide a blueprint to other similar alumni organizations looking to make similar impacts. MFSA’s early work is supported by a $500,000 grant from the Stanton Foundation. Show less
