I performed site inspections, conducted safety meetings and was overall in charge of safety on various projects. In addition to that, I got my hands dirty with the workers, jumping in the trenches if need be, putting up guard rails to protect them from falls of over four feet or more, etc. I believe that in order to gain the respect of the guys you supervise, it helps to actually work with them and not just tell them what to do or how to do it.
