  I edited the newspaper for three years as the head of the editorial team. This was a highly exciting time since the newspaper had been bought by the Thapar group, and I led the transformation in the Lucknow edition.

  I was the first Dean of the Asian College of Journalism that was set up by B.D.Goenka Foundation in Bangalore in 1994. Besides overall supervision, I also taught editing. This was the first media school in India that started campus placements.

  As the Vice President of Express Network Private Limited, I led a team of 70 New Media professionals, and pioneered the group’s foray into digital media. My work included setting up and managing news websites, developing and running an e-commerce portal, building value added services for mobile phones, creating a digital information service, technology sourcing and developing a business model around the newly developed digital properties of the Group.Some of the revenue streams that I developed were: e-commerce, online advertising, subscription of premium content, tie up with telecom players for delivery of mobile content, online syndication, and information services.   OCMS.in was India's first Online School of Journalism and a major media vertical. It ran courses for students in Reporting, Editing, Headline Writing and Internet Journalism for students aspiring to become journalists and for those who were already working as journalists.

  International Media Institute of India

  In 2009, I became the Dean of the International Media Institute of India. This Institute was set up by the International Center for Journalists, Washington, with an Indian media foundation. My brief was to set up India's first converged multimedia newsroom. Besides teaching new Media, Social Media and Mobile Journalism, I looked after the general administration of the Institute. As Dean of the Institute, I launched India’s first voice-based news service for rural areas on mobile phones. This hyperlocal news service named Gaon Ki Awaaz won two South Asian awards and the Nasscom Social Innovation Honour for 2011. It was also recognized by Times Now, the television channel of the Times Group, for e-innovation in the Amazing Indians Series in 2011. Show less

  I set up www.easymedia.in in 2013 as a blog targeted at media students. Since then, I have been publishing posts off and on - the goal being to share my knowledge with media students. The blog has now taken a life of its own and it gives me great pleasure to share my media knowledge using this platform.

  As Professor and Head, I was responsible for developing a Digital and Mobile First media school that reflected the needs of 21st century media. This involved designing a skill-based curriculum, hiring Faculty with domain expertise from the industry, developing project-based learning modules, interacting with Times Group Editors to introduce new learning, and making sure that the School grows year on year.

  TheirStory.in is the vision of a group of men and women whose dream is to create a shared resource, an online community that builds empathy for the elderly, and reduces their helplessness and suffering. Our goal is to create an online platform where families can share the challenges and heartbreaks of managing their elderly parents. It is hoped that through this platform families would learn how others in similar situations are coping with their loved ones, experiences that could help everyone manage their parents better.This site also wants to give voice to the health caregivers who toil under difficult circumstances to reduce the pain and misery of our elders. It also wants to celebrate the lives of our elders and salute them for what they achieved, and record their golden moments, their achievements and their successes for posterity. Show less
