Chief electrician / night rig maintenance supervisor

I joined Noble as an electrician and was sent to a DP Semi-Sub as an extra night electrician to help catch up the preventive maintenance plans. My rig managers, RMS, Sr. Electricians, and superintendents were quickly impressed by my skills, knowledge, and work ethics. Within two weeks, I was promoted to Chief Electrician. I held that position for only a year and a half before I was again promoted, this time to 2nd Engineer / Night Rig Maintenance Supervisor. Our vessel was dynamically positioned; however, the vessel’s classification did not require a full engineering crew. The lack of engineering personnel required the night RMS to also serve in the role of second engineer. The job was not only demanding but also rewarding as I gained invaluable experience in the three years that I held night RMS / 2nd Engineer position. Some of the many responsibilities included: prioritizing planned maintenance for all departments and ensuring proper documentation of all maintenance activities, logging equipment-running hours into the maintenance system, assist RMS with budgeting and planning major overhauls of equipment, inventory of critical spares, maintain the rig’s chemical, oils, and grease inventory, supervising electrical, mechanical, engine room operators, oilers, motormen, welders, and electronic technicians working night tour with their safety as priority, assist mechanical and electrical teams troubleshoot drilling equipment to minimize downtime, ensure maximum thruster availability for station keeping, continuous monitoring of the power management system, maintaining rig air, bulk air, and high pressure systems, freshwater production, sewage treatment, perform risk assessments, crew evaluations, and promote an incident free safety culture. Throughout the eleven months on this assignment, my wide ranged skill set was quickly noticed and I was asked to fill several roles to included electrical, dynamic positioning, engineering, mechanical, drilling, blowout preventer systems and controls, project team leader, and acting company man. My title was changed from electrical consultant to consultant. Show less
