      Nanny

As both a part time and full time nanny, it has been my responsibility to care for children of the families that I work for. This entails a variety responsibilities, as each different by family and child. I have worked with children from newborns to high-school students. This includes, but is not limited to, helping with homework, tutoring, teaching music lessons, taking care of household responsibilities, and preparing college applications. Having studied social and developmental psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I am very passionate about taking education from the classroom into daily life and the home. "New Roots" is a project under the Institute for the Study of the Americas (ISA) and the Latino Migration Project (LMP) in conjunction with the Southern Oral History Program at UNC. I collected and transcribed the interviews of Latina/o migrants who had settled in the RDU area. As a historian with a zeal for human rights, I am passionate about the project. Everyone's story deserves to be heard. Sharing the digital recordings and transcriptions of the oral history interviews may allow for social change in the future by being as a tool to educate the public, while also putting individuals' personal histories into the context of local, national, and world historical record. Show less As a Latino Migration Project (LMP) Intern, I spent time a bit more involved with the Latino Migration Project by writing and releasing its weekly newsletter, planning/promoting events for LMP, and going through research bases on various projects designed to help improve living conditions, education, job opportunities for migrants in Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. During the Fall 2013 semester, I also helped to plan the service-learning course (UNC APPLES Global Course Guanajuato), which I then participated in in the Spring, as a dozen students are selected as a team to study migration in North Carolina and Guanajuato, Mexico. Field researcher

UNC APPLES Global Course Guanajuato Field Researcher: After going through a selection process, I took a course offered at UNC that focuses on migration from Latin America to the United States, using the migration pattern from Guanajuato to North Carolina as a case study throughout the semester. A part of a team of 12 undergraduate researchers, we studied topics including workers rights, immigration status, and education, to name a few. The main responsibility of the course was completing oral history interviews/transcriptions for the "New Roots: Latino Oral Histories" program. The course itself lasted January-May, 2014, yet in March 2014, we traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico in order to experience the other side of the US-Mexico migration story. Show less

      May 2014 - Aug 2014
      Murap 2014 research fellow

The Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program is a summer student fellowship hosted at UNC-CH. As a graduate-level research program MURAP is designed to foster diversity in the fields of humanities, fine arts, and social science research. Making it through a highly-selective application process, MURAP required myself, as well as the other fellows, to create and complete and individual research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor. The 40+ page research papers' findings were presented at a conference with the other MURAP fellows, faculty mentors, UNC faculty, MURAP staff. At the end of the program, MURAP hosted a conference titled “Structural Racism in the U.S.: An Interdisciplinary Perspective.” As a fellow, I conducted/completed my research project, presented at the conferences, and helped to teach and learn from my fellow cohort members as well as the faculty.
