  Apalachicola national estuarine research reserve

  Stewardship intern

  For the past six month I was working as the Stewardship Intern for the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. With the Stewardship team I have conducted nesting sea turtle surveys and evaluations, mangrove surveys, GIS mapping and storymap creation, invasive species management with herbicide, drone surveying and game camera review.With the Research team I have joined them to conduct trawling, nutrient and water quality sampling, data loggers, and sea grass surveys. I joined the People of The Apalachicola for a day to gain understanding of their work and how it contributes to the historical and cultural importance of the area. In my time here I have learned to drive and properly maintain a boat and a UTV, as well as fly a drone. This experience has been extremely enriching. I have gained so much knowledge from the amazing staff here. I know these skills have prepared me for my ongoing career in Environmental Science! Show less

  River restoration associate

  As the new River Restoration Associate I will be working to restore the Anacostia watershed. Many of my tasks will include wetland restoration, invasive plant management, mussel propagation and monitoring, and leading volunteer events. This is an amazing opportunity to connect with the local community and see the impact of our work.
