Jul 1989 - Oct 1989Project Engineer (Project Engineering Office)• Various tasks assigned included the sizing and balancing of air ducts for the ventilation system of a semi- automatic bagging machine, the sizing and picking of a suitable fan from manufacturer’s performance curves, the design of a walking platform for storage tanks using Australian Standard 1657-1985, optimising suitable location for a new scrubber using Autocad.Skills Gained : • New skills gained included the importance in using and being aware of various standards, manufacturer’s catalogues etc... and to keep such documentation updated and preferably in a library system. Technical specifications are very important tools when communicating with outside contractors and the emphasis is on you to provide clear and concise specifications on the product/service required. Usage of Autocad was limited but nevertheless proved to be very useful in providing quick changes and hardcopy drawings for quick results. Working in a relatively small engineering office, there is more emphasis on the individual to work on his/her own which also means responsibility. Show less

Feb 1990 - Feb 1991Technical Writer (ISO 9001:1987)• Initially hired for 6 weeks, responsibilities included the preparation of Quality Assurance Procedures complying to ISO 9001 for the Purchasing Department and Distribution Centre which comprises the Supply and Customer Service Departments as well as Store Operations. • Two Quality Assurance Procedure Manuals were written with a third one co-ordinated for the Process Equipment Department. • All Procedures were formatted and written on a wordprocessor (Wordperfect 5.1). Flowcharts and technical drawings were drawn on a PC using the Drafix CAD Ultra package. The manuals were audited by Lloyd’s register which lead to Warman International being recommended for accreditation as having a Quality System complying with the requirements of ISO 9001. • Additional responsibilities included the creation of an order drive sheet, calculating and specifying minimum distances required between drive guards, motor pulleys and ground clearances with pump bases for all different sizes of Warman pumps. • My contract was renewed three (3) times and I was offered a full time position as a Customer Service Engineer. Written reference issued from Senior Customer Service Engineer.Skills Gained : • Extensive experience in Quality Assurance and the International Standard ISO 9001 was gained including the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM). Additional skills acquired included writing and formatting formal Procedures by liaising with responsible incumbents, usage of Wordperfect 5.1 and Drafix CAD Ultra and a better overall understanding of centrifugal pumps (Reference issued on request) Show less

All Procedures were written to conform to ISO 9001. • Co-ordination and final preparation of Quality System Procedures Manual (Volumes 1 & 2) for the Quality Department. • Work Instructions were also prepared for the Engineering Department. Flowcharts were created using the Apple Macintosh and McDraw software. Alcatel Australia were audited and achieved certification to ISO-9001. Skills Gained : • Familiarisation with the Apple Macintosh Computer System, McDraw Software and the use of spreadsheets for repetitive calculations involving specific Quality principles such as Reliability Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Acceptance Sampling, Statistical Process Control etc... Working directly with the Quality Department it is clear that Quality is more than having and running a Quality Management System based on ISO 9001.
