  Fabric technologist

  I started my first career in Bodyline by handling fabric and accessories quality assurance on related to garments and fabrics .mainly I had headed the AATCC Silver plus Accredited testing Lab for Textile physical and chemical testing by coordination & reports evaluation. Getting down technical specifications and test reports form supplier across all customer requirements (NIKE, VS, M & S and LB) and Negotiate with supplier, in case of failure was one my main Objectives. I also worked with garment cutting, fabric Pu cup molding and fabric lamination departments by solving both material and other fabric related issues to achieve the departmental efficiency. which includes Continuous improvement of the material Quality Assurance process in order to achieve zero customer claim , zero line idle time and no impact for the bulk lead time or raw material holding time at store /inspection/ lab by Following the strategies ,Speed, Accuracy, Analysis and professional relationship. Finally I had the opportunity to involve with NIKE no sew bra and panties developments on relate to physical and chemical testing performances to hit the customer’s requirement. Show less

  Working on my role I had to represent on daily management review meetings presenting department. Mainly I had to attend to day to day manufacturing problems on relate to printing while listening to customer feedbacks for speedy solutions. I also had to decide on Raw material and product pricing while directly involving the print quality concerns (color, layout, registration, aesthetic appearance, hand feel). I also had to work with engraving, color and technical team for the development and corrective action to cater the customer’s innovative requirements. Identifying new print technics and new methods with regional and customer’s requirement and work with chemical, machine suppliers for the new developments also part of my job. I am fully involved in Identifying new printing techniques and developments in related to customer’s requirement. It was a challenge for me to head the technical department of the newly started printing department of Hayleys and started the ongoing production we had from other commission printers which I had successfully done. I had to mainly involves with Color recipe development for the bulk and strike-offs. Development of print pastes for bulk production (Pigment, disperse, reactive, glitter and burn outs) were part the role my role .I had to continuously develop new printing technics which gives More aesthetic appearance by working closely with Chemical Supplier through commenting the usability of new chemicals and products.   In my role included to Working with Sri Lankan and overseas fabric mills (China, Korean and Hong Kong) and printers for the developments of new technologies. (Both cotton and synthetic suppliers). While worked on-going production –color approval, cad approval print approval and fabric chemical and physical test approvals. Especially I had to coordinate with swim and clothing Sri Lankan vendors’ production issues in all stages. Meanwhile I had to implement a fabric development process to ensure all technical specifications matched across multi-sourced fabric qualities Liaise with suppliers in order to develop seasonal fabrics whilst negotiating cost effective prices. Part of my role I had to Visit new suppliers & evaluate their machinery, lab & product mix to ensure the mills can deliver the products as required while Identifying specific competencies and capacities of different mills so as to ensure different customer’s products are placed at the most suitable mills. I have worked very closely with customer’s RM teams, business teams to provide seasonal trend collections, participating in customer presentations so as to facilitate Business teams to obtain new Business by providing accurate & attending to Fabric Technical and administrative issues from the cluster, attending to Fabric issues with fabric mills and Buyers, managing the approval process of fabrics through Buyers and ensuring smooth flow of production. I also over looked on reviewing bulk color & lab dip submits against official standards and print submits for engraving, print technique & color in light box. Order color standards for seasonal palettes, communicate color comments and maintain print artwork and submit library. I also had to provide technical training and new technical updates for suppliers and vendors for enhancing their products and solving their facing issues. Show less

Which poses an own fabric mill and garment manufacturing unit in China and source the fabric needed to the Sri Lankan garment manufactures.in the product of sourcing includes synthetic and cotton weft and warp knit fabrics , waist bands , tubular fabrics , Santoni / no sew garments .
