      Apr 2002 - Jul 2012

Prior to becoming the Teen Librarian here in October 2003, I served as a children's librarian here just after I completed my library degree. Being located in downtown Pawtucket we are close to two public high schools, a private Catholic high school as well as a charter high school so I stay busy in the afternoon hours. I ran a Homework Center three afternoons a week with the help of a colleague who also likes working with teens. In addition I would regularly interact with students at the nearby arts high school courtesy of a teacher who took the time to bring his students to the library to use our databases. Show less

This is a great group of teachers and librarians, both school and public, who meet to talk about which books will make the final list for the RI Teen Book Award each year. It spurs me onto read more which results in better reader's advisory in the library.

      Jul 2012 - May 2014
      Children's librarian

One of my my favorite programs has to be Mother Goose on the Loose, a lapsit program for babies and their adult caregivers. Previously my storytimes were mainly for toddlers and preschoolers but in this setting, I was the only children's librarian offering programs.(Just to be clear, I worked with a hardworking folks who helped run the department in other ways, just not programming!) After I attended Betsy Diamant-Cohen's workshop at Simmons College in November of 2012, I gained lots of confidence and just loved interacted with the families with songs, rhymes and movement. Working in this busy children's room also meant that I refreshed my circulation desk skills which I hadn't used in many years. The way the library building is configured, there are two circulations desks so from time to time I was called on to perform this duty as well as my other programming and planning. Show less

    • Lincoln public library

      Nov 2013 - Aug 2014
      Librarian

In the Children's Room, I did shelving, collection development and programs including Baby Rhyme Time (very similar to Mother Goose on the Loose), Tales for 2s and I started up a LEGO Building Club, in response to the popular demand of their patrons. While working here I had the opportunity to refresh my teaching skills and offered "Computers for Absolute Beginners" on Friday afternoons. It was inspiring to meet some senior patrons who still want to learn something new! I also offered "iPad Tips & Tricks" as a sharing session for those who wanted to learn more about using their iPads from me and fellow users. Show less

      Aug 2014 - Apr 2016

While working here for the past year, I've really grown to love this library. When the opportunity to become Assistant Director came about, I decided to make the change. My love of children's literature has not diminished but now I can get back to working with teens and adults on a more regular basis. Working in adult and teen collection development along with adult and teen programming means getting back to other aspects of librarianship that I really enjoy. Working with a great team which includes a part-time children's librarian, two part-time paraprofessionals and a part-time page! Everyone who works in the department contributes to programming but I will still get to do my favorite thing, which is story time!

Returning to work here with a bright, bubbly staff at this small library. Not only is there a great staff here but there is a great collection of materials packed into this small building. It's a busy place where I will assist with administrative functions along with adult programming, collection development, technology assistance and wherever else I am needed.
