The Infectious Disease track offers specialized coursework in microbiology, immunology, and epidemiologic methods to understand and address infectious diseases.

      The Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (U-RISE) program aims to cultivate a diverse cohort of undergraduates who will pursue biomedical research-focused higher degree programs. It provides funding to eligible institutions for stipends, tuition, fees, and training-related expenses for trainees pursuing STEM majors leading to biomedical research-focused advanced degrees. Trainees must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents, and are supported for two to three years during their undergraduate studies to engage in full-time research training, with a strong emphasis on preparing for transition into higher degree programs.       Literature review evaluating the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on healthcare-seeking behaviors amongst students in a minority-serving institution (MSI).• Conducted a literature review on healthcare-seeking behaviors that informed the development of the study aims and survey questions.• Developed the IRB protocol that gives an overview of the historical context of healthcare-seeking behaviors among individuals during the COVID-19 Pandemic. That was successful in being accepted.• Developed recruitment flyer on Canva, the recruitment email to accompany the flyer, and the consent form according to the IRB guidelines.• Contributed to the iterative questionnaire development process.• Inputted the questionnaire into Qualtrics, an online survey platform. Show less New Mother’s Child Care and Support Network Study: Applications of the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) model and Social Network Analysis to Explore Responsive Parenting and Feeding Practices among Mothers in the Inland Empire (PI: Kassandra Harding, Ph.D.)• Developed standard operating procedures (SOP) and supporting logs for logistical tasks carried out by the study team such as scheduling screening appointments and logging recruitment activities. • Screened potential study participants via phone interview. • Managed daily text messages sent to participants as a reminder to complete the survey. • Conducted ongoing quality control of survey completion by comparing the corresponding screening and survey data. • Recruited participants through the distribution of study flyers and contacting local health clinics via phone. • Led team to improve the organization and scheduling of participant screenings amongst fellow student research assistants.• Developed a log sheet to include pediatric and women’s health clinics so that my team and I may ask to send our recruitment flyers too.• Developed STATA do-files to clean and conduct a descriptive analysis of the Health Action Process Approach and demographic. • Wrote a successfully funded internal grant to conduct an analysis exploring the role of HAPA constructs in explaining responsive feeding practices.
