Youth delegate - early career conservationists

In partnership with IFAW and the Disney Foundation, the Youth Forum for People and Wildlife was first created in 2016 and hosted during CITES CoP 17 in Johannesbourg (South Africa). At this occasion, youth delegates from around the globe were selected to represent early carreer conservationists and participate to panel discussions at CITES CoP17 during this hybrid in-person/online forum. This youth forum resulted in the production of a report presented at CITES CoP17, and the creation of "Youth for Wildlife Conservation" (Y4WC), an international network helping young conservationists by offering peer-to-peer support and cooperation, professional skills development and youth empowerment, as well as representing youth engagement in policy negotiations under CITES and the UN. Msc degree thesis

During my thesis work, I investigated the phenological plasticity of seasonal moulting in a population of wild Arctic foxes (vulpes lagopus), and used linear mixed models fitted to time-series data from wildlife camera traps to investigate the capacity of this high-latitude carnivore to adapt to climatic variability. The study was published in the journal Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation (RSEC).

    • Uit- the arctic university of norway

      Jan 2022 - Jul 2023

Research project with the Northern Populations and Ecosystems group at the University of Tromsø (UiT), where I developped my quantitative and modelling skills with the use of Bayesian statistics. In this project, I used camera trap data from the Climate-ecological Observatory for Arctic Tundra (COAT), a food-web based monitoring program which aims at predicting long-term ecosystem changes based on modelling in an effort to develop best management practices. As part of this project, I worked with a team of researchers which developed a novel subnivean camera trap system capable of monitoring small mammals (mustelids and small rodents) year-round, including under the snow. With this data, I studied the interactions and investigated the spatial dynamics of a local community of mustelids using Bayesian dynamic occupancy models, and investigated temporal niche partinioning looking at circannual temporal activity patterns. Tasks included processing samples for environmental impact assessments and carrying out analyses for various research projects (e.g Grain size analysis; Total Organic Cabon analysis; processing of fat tissue samples from polar bears in Svalbard for dietary analysis). Additionally, I ensure optimal management and processing of large amounts of data through LIMs (Laboratory Information Management system) to facilitate the workflow between data collection in the field and subsequent processing, and assist project leaders for the preparation of field equipment for various monitoring missions at sea, including data collection on large marine mammals in Skjervøy, Northern Norway.
