  Picture Desk Editor/Mac Operator at Big Pictures for Mr Paparazzi aka Darryn Lyons. Within this role, I directly received celebrity photographs and a wide range of current affairs photographs from global agencies, staff photographers and the general public. Images were prepared for publication with the use of Photo Mechanic, FotoStation Pro, Orphea and Photoshop. Images were cropped, colour corrected, bannered and an exciting and attention grabbing caption was applied. The completed images were then distributed to the National Press, magazines, syndicated to Global Agencies and uploaded to the Mr Paparazzi website. I was also fully trained in Video Editing which involves cutting, editing, manipulating and captioning the paparazzi and events videos from the staff videographers and foreign agencies. The software programmes I have been trained in include Transmit, QuickTime, MPEG Streamclip, Compressor and Final Cut Pro. I have also been involved in the training of new members of staff and checking copyrights of our images. Show less

  Picture Researcher on Best Magazine’s busy picture desk. The role required me to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, as part of a small team. I gained an extensive knowledge of photographers and picture libraries and had experience of negotiating fees. I also made the most of my strong administrative skills when working on the picture desk, invoicing and completing the weekly mark up of the magazine. I also had the fantastic opportunity to write travel features about Brighton, Tel Aviv and Windsor, as well as film reviews for the magazine. Show less

  Picture Assistant to the Senior Picture Editor at Good Housekeeping Magazine. I was solely responsible for maintaining a high standard of picture research for the entire magazine. I assisted in the both the production and art direction of photo shoots, whether real people, celebrities or still life by sourcing photographers, studios/locations, props, stylists, hair and make up artists and catering. I would edit and prepare images for retouching. I have gained an extensive knowledge of photographers and picture libraries and have built great relationships with agencies and PR's. I am extremely passionate about finding new and exciting talent within the industry. I would oversee the budgets for a large percentage of the magazine and negotiate competitive fees. I was responsible for invoicing and completing the mark up of the magazine. I have an in depth understanding of copyright law, image rights and syndication. I was also involved in the Picture Research for the launch of Good Ideas Magazine. I also had the opportunity to take a press trip to Switzerland and continue my passion for travel writing, my article was published in Zest Magazine. Show less

  As Picture Editor for Woman's Day Magazine I was solely responsible for running the busy Picture Desk, commissioning Photo shoots and liaising with photographers and picture agencies all over the world. The job involves keeping on the pulse, reading daily newspaper clips, keeping on top of celebrity gossip and updating the daily cable from London and New York. I managed a large amount of photographic material which came in daily on the FTP and email, this involves sifting through pictures from numerous agencies and photographers and absorbing all the picture information and news stories relevant to the magazine including real life features. The role involves constantly bidding and negotiating fees on exclusive sets of images, working in various currencies such as NZD, AUD, USD and GBP. I would put forward all the picture content for the magazine which often drives the stories in daily meetings. A big part of this job is organising photo shoots in New Zealand, Australia, America, UK and Europe, this involves sourcing new and exciting locations, talented stylists and Make Up artists and of course photographers. I have gained a vast knowledge of photographers and contacts all over the world. I always maintain a calm manner in such a fast paced, high pressured environment.   NewspixNZ is the image syndication and licensing department for the New Zealand Herald and NZME. Our extensive photographic archives include historic, news, sport, scenic, celebrity and stock images plus daily updates of new content published in our print and online mastheads. Images are available for editorial and commercial licensing. We also give our customers the opportunity to buy their published prints for personal use through our image website newspix.co.nz. I manage the design and content for newspix.co.nz and the photosales for the NZME. group, the social media pages on Twitter/Facebook and the email marketing for newspix.co.nz. I also conduct picture research for Viva, Weekend Life, Travel and Canvas Magazines as well as extrenal clients. I liase with external picture agencies on behalf of editorial and am the main point of contact for the website developer. My role involves signing up new photographers/contributors and media account holders, licensing text permissions and negotiating fees, working closely with the digital team, marketing, APN Australia, our print fulfilment company and regional papers to ensure the smooth running of newspix.co.nz. I also look after the archives, negatives, clippings, microfilm and hard copy files and help with the digitalising of the photographs. I have a strong knowledge of copyright law and am passionate about protecting the heritage of our valuable archive and am proud to promote the world-class photojournalism our talented staff photographers produce.
