I'm tasked with effectively and efficiently administering a 330-person department, with additional accountability for an over $33M budget to support equipment and personnel towards the proper security of 150K local citizens. I also identify and resolve emergent legal issues affecting the Tuscaloosa jurisdiction in conjunction with Tuscaloosa's appointed Mayor, council, and community leaders. In turn, I maintain proper alignment with the Chief of Police's established goals and objectives via daily, weekly, and monthly meetings with commanders. I similarly approve of equipment and software purchases to boost overall effectiveness while also monitoring overtime to ensure budgetary compliance. Lastly, I render oversight for multiple divisions including - but not limited to - Forensics, Criminal Investigations, Recruiting, Homicide, Communications, and Municipal Security. While employed in this role, I:• Developed and implemented a new employee payment plan of $5M (the highest amount in the county).• Procured a $205K simulator to advance officers' training in up-to-date law enforcement and crime prevention tactics.• Created the police department's new Forensics Division in tandem with modern technologies to combat gun violence.• Implemented a "stratified police" model for better analysis, response, and evaluation in areas with higher crime rates. Show less I coordinated daily operations for an eight-person department and diverse team encompassing one (1) Lieutenant, five (5) Sergeants, and two (2) civilians while also guiding the continuing education of a 285-person organization. In turn, I ensured optimal performance by facilitating training and development for all new police recruits. I also purchased all the precinct’s uniforms and equipment, with additional accountability for the department’s firing range, weapons, and ammunition. I similarly organized logistics for vehicles, tables, chairs, and other resources needed for special events. While employed in this role, I:• Executed a $273K annual budget supporting weapons, ammunition, equipment, and firing range requirements.• Established a Policy Review Committee to moderate then-new and preexisting policy and procedures.• Administered yearly training for 300 sworn police officers, as well as additional yearly training for 35-45 newly recruited police officers about 8-10 weeks prior to academy entrance.• Purchased a document management software allowing the digitalization of training files, policies, and all other documents to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the precinct’s workflows and electronic signatures.• Implemented a digital training platform for instructing and testing efforts, subsequently maintaining/coordinating training subjects and hours, as well as the submission of subjects and hours to ensure state agency compliance. Show less I maintained a five-person unit including three (3) pilots, one (1) civilian mechanic, and one (1) support member, with additional accountability for a $90K budget and six (6) aircraft valued at over $1M. In turn, I supervised daily patrol flights culminating in 60 scheduled flight hours per month as an appointed Tactical Flight Officer while also commanding 15 specific missions per month for recon, search and rescue, high-speed chase support, and security backup. I similarly ensured overall aircraft and pilot compliance by directly organizing biannual training sessions (as supplemented by oversight for a $10K annual training budget). While employed in this role, I:• Initiated an "observer" program gaining seven (7) part-time Tactical Flight Officers to assist pilots and expand force tracking/monitoring capabilities during specialized missions.• Procured a $350K forward-looking infrared (FLIR) device, subsequently saving $70K in general costs via dedicated vendor analysis and $700K in additional equipment expenses via a successful cross-fitting plan for reserve aircraft. Show less I oversaw investigations and major incident responses, with additional oversight for leading investigations as on-site commander and securing incident areas, crime scenes, and facility search integrity. I also ensured timely emergency response via coordination with multiple units including EMS, fire department, and city agency leaders. I was similarly tasked with assigning officers and sergeants to daily routes while also maintaining overarching adherence to team policy by determining policy compliance and recommending corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to department leaders. In turn, I conducted payroll and OT/Compstat entry on a daily and biweekly basis, subsequently compiling data and presenting biweekly reports for the precinct's Compstat Meetings. While employed in this role, I:• Supervised a 45-person shift and directed administrative functions for 100 members across three (3) shifts.• Guided operations for a 60-person incident response team while actively serving as an onsite commander for investigations (providing necessary service coordination and support in tandem with city and agency units. Show less Oversaw certification training and physical training for department. Teamed with three trainers to conduct internal professional development opportunities. Coordinated with external vendors for specialized training events.• Led 8-week training and professional development courses for 300 officers.• Managed over $100K in resources to include protective equipment, weapons maintenance and qualifications, and training materials.• Conducted active shooter training for county schools that increased safety and security for 30 schools per year.• Instituted free self-defense program that serviced 500 women from local community and organized logistics to enable 4 courses per year. Show less I moderated patrol shift as a frontline supervisor with first-contact approval authority responsibility (and disseminating open and accurate information across the entire force). I also ensured optimal performance by managing labor availability and allocation, completing rosters and shift reports, and assigning/issuing force protection equipment and department vehicles. I similarly maintained overall performance and discipline by actively investigating complaints and issuing CAPAs as needed. While employed in this role, I:• Served as a primary point-of-contact for call responses while also directly leading crime scene activities as a designated first responder to emergency events.
