      Research Assistant

Assist with human subject and participant data collection including comprehensive interviews, surveys, and community level information (events, areas of interest, and monitoring changes in environment over time) in a University Internal Review Board approved study. This study measures the effects of various factors (teachers, schools, geographical location, and crime) have on respondents growing up in one of the most dangerous cities in the United States (Camden, NJ), and their educational accomplishments (i.e. acceptance to and graduation from college). Information is transcribed and input into various programs such as SPSS (IBM statistical package); Geographic information systems (GIS), and NVIVO (Qualitative data analysis) to ascertain patterns of behaviors, experiences, locations, and other data. I supervise and lead a team of student volunteers to obtain necessary community level data to use in educational presentations. Based on information that is collected and analyzed, recommendations are made, in order to gain the most comprehensive amount of information.Accomplishments/Presentations/Works in Progress • Graduate Research Travel Award 2015 & 2016• Human Subjects Certification• Presenter: American Society of Criminology 2015 & 2016• Presenter: Rutgers-Camden Graduate Conference 2016 & 2017• Works in progress:o Exploring the Protective Factors Associated with Criminal Desistance and college Attendance Among Residents From One of America’s “Most dangerous Cities”o Spatial Analysis of Violent Crime and Gang Activity within Camden,, NJ: Using GIS to graphically compare Residential Perceptions’ of Risk against Official Crime and Gang Data. o Where is the “Latino Paradox” within these impoverished Neighborhoods?
