      Habitat - Forest Structure Scientist

      I carried out surveys to assess the forest structure and carbon storage of Cusuco National Park, using the survey techniques and following the standardised methodologies specified by the senior scientist and senior biodiversity survey coordinator before the start of the season.  To ensure the data collected from these standardised surveys are input to the computers at Base Camp before you leave site.  To ensure that an accurate inventory of all habitat equipment is completed at the end of the season.  To run the survey in such a way that allows students to assist with the survey in a safe manner.  To explain the purpose and results of the survey to participating volunteers.  To give at least one presentation as required as part of the evening talks programme about the forest structure and carbon storage research project and any other topics relevant to your experience and the aims of the expedition.  To assist with supervision for any participating forest structure and carbon storage dissertation students present on site.  To assist the Senior Forest Structure Scientist to produce a detailed report, including all raw data, to be submitted before you leave the site and to contribute towards the writing of papers based on this data for publication in peer reviewed journals.       As an Academic employee with the Globe Institute at the University of Copenhagen, I am responsible for the coordination and collection of DNA bird samples for the Bird 10,000 genomes project.Goal of the project - To generate representative draft genome sequences from all extant bird species.Responsibilities:- Administrative work associated to the project which includes: ensuring timely reporting, and registration of costs and effort in relation to fieldwork, documentation and repository actions and other group activities.- I contribute to various outreach activities of the project, facilitating large meetings, workshops.- Facilitate contact with potential collaborators and enabling a structured work process with these- Relationship management with collaborators ensuring visibility on the project workflow and how this is communicated to the larger scientific community - Data coordination and management for the genus and species phase of the project- Travel to various countries for sample pickup when ordinary courier services do not suffice- Filling out necessary MTA, MOU and other research application forms (CITES, NAGOYA)- Ensure an overview and general flow of the project- Fieldwork, planning, setup and execution- Make sure legal permits and laws for data transportation and acquisition are acquired and followed- Laboratory work: extraction of DNA from received bird samples Vis mindre
