In absence of any clear priorities directed and led the installation of the network, connectivity to equipment and switches and associated configurations. All activities completed by end December 2017 ready for first bake in Jan 2018 Show less Project #2: MAST Upgrade - Design and Installation of New IT Server Room, Power, Cubicles and Networks.Responsible for the uplift of the IT infrastructure of the £30M upgrade to the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) experimental fusion plasma facility. This involves the development and implementation of several new capabilities including improved control and monitoring of nuclear fusion experiments, the recording, display, replay, storage and distribution of very high-speed video, the development of a new Virtual Server Farm, design and implementation of a new IT Server Room including the design of new high availability cubicles, installation of new power supplies including 100KvA UPS, and networks. Project #2: Curve Braking DistanceManaging the development of a Proof of Concept (PoC) product to demonstrate driver braking and acceleration behaviors in the approach and exit from a curve. Determining the precise location of a racing car with respect to the track is extremely difficult due to the speeds involved and the volume of data that needs to be processed across multiple vehicles in semi real-time. By using an innovative combination of data processing technologies from the financial industry and a high-performance database a working PoC has been demonstrated at live races, with new televised graphics being broadcast worldwide. The PoC is now being extended to show those drivers who braked closest to the apex of a curve, considered to be a major factor contributing to a drivers final race position and potentially an early predictor of final race position. Show less Project #1: New Timing SystemThe race timing system is fundamental to the operation of a race (for Formula-1 series and others), it records details of the race times for competitors, intermediate times at points around the track, details of the preceding practice sessions, qualifying sessions, penalties and pit-stops. Data is broadcast live worldwide, and accumulated over the season to determine the overall World Championship and Constructors Championship positions, and produces formal race reports to the FIA for worldwide distribution. The current timing system is based on old unsupported technology and has been substantially modified so maintenance is now a concern.Responsible for project managing a small team developing a replacement timing system using current .NET technologies with C#, CSS, HTML, and XML, with Visual Studio incorporating ReSharper, SonarQube and TeamCity in an Agile approach with Scrum and JIRA. Prior to my involvement the project team had no understanding of their development timescales or resource requirements with no delivery road-map. Responsible for developing a sequence of top-level milestones that steer the development to the completion of the final product, with meaningful interim product releases that can be run at a race as a shadow to the current live system enabling the code to be subject to real-world operational experience with direct comparison to the live system and opportunities for user feedback.Used team performance to provide an estimate of future achievements, identifying resource short-falls and escalating as necessary, leading to other departmental resources being reprioritized and reassigned. Identifying and resolving functional risk areas and priorities with race operations teams. Show less
