That was evident in abundance at the annual NES Symposium held May 4-6, 2006, at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.The crew of the International Space Station Expedition 13 talked with students at GSFC, answering questions and explaining what it's like to live and work in space. Several of the students asking questions of the crew were NES students. I happened to be chosen as one of the lucky 20 NES students to have the opportunity to speak directly to the Russian Cosmonaut and American Astronaut a part of Expedition 13. This space station downlink was a unique opportunity to get a glimpse at life in space and learn more about how people live and work more than 200 miles above the Earth. The NES Symposium is an enormous set of workshops and meetings for students and teachers participating in the NES program. For three days, there were dozens of activities and seminars to attend, from building robots to planning a moon base. Students who had entered the NES Challenge competition presented the results of their months of experiments and research. Symposium guests made outings to tour the National Air and Space Museum and the Maryland Science Center. Show less
