      The Operations Control team for PJHQ is the first point of contact for all operational matters, incidents and emerging crises involving the UK military. The team consists of only two individuals – the Operations Controller and the Assistant. This team is a key player in the flow of information and decision making between the Headquarters, the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development, the Department for Health, the Cabinet Office and No. 10 Downing Street.Responsibilities:• Produce and execute briefs to visitors on current operations around the world.• Act as initial POC at PJHQ for operational matters by monitoring all incoming information, via email, telephone and various other IT systems and ensure it is directed to the relevant division.• Ensuring local file management systems are up to date and correct.• Produce weekly read files with strict deadlines for 22 senior managers.• Processing and management of highly classified material, both electronically and physically.• Command and Control of assigned forces deployed on Joint Operations.• Take immediate action in the event of an emergency in the UK or overseas.• Activating an alternate operations control room as part of the business continuity plan.• Provide technical support to peers and managers through the role of Local Security Officer. Show less Reporting to the Surveillance Director, the aim of my role was to assist the Identifying Officer in building and maintaining the Recognised Air Picture (RAP) of the UK Airspace. I also took this role on in the Falkland Islands on a 4-month tour. This required me to adapt drastically to my new environment, using different equipment and limited resources to produce the same outcome.Responsibilities:• Monitor the UK airspace for friendly, hostile and unknown civilian and military aircraft. Investigate, analyse and identify them in accordance with certain criteria. • Input safety critical weather and air pressures into IT systems for military pilots to see.• Listen to emergency radios for civilian and military aircraft and act accordingly if an emergency is declared.• Train and mentor new employees.
