  I completed my nursing school preceptorship in the ICU of Fairview's UMMC West Bank hospital. This role consisted of 221 hours of working with a nurse to manage our patient assignments: following their plan of care, administering medications, completing full and focused assessments, completing wound, oral, trach, foley, and stoma cares, and communicating with the interprofessional healthcare team. As part of this role, I looked into how the facility addresses community concerns.This role taught me nursing skills, how to communicate with patients and family, how to communicate with providers, and how to manage many different high-acuity conditions, and chronic conditions on top of higher-acuity concerns.
