Senior Mental Health Therapist, prevention therapist

This position included acting as a liaison to the community, providing information about services as well as supporting access and connection to those services. I also had a focus on youth suicide prevention; I am certified to provide Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide prevention programs as well as Youth Mental Health First Aid. I created a series of community presentations, or "talks," on a variety of mental health subjects and offered these to any organization interested in hosting us. I acted as co-chair for our tri-county youth suicide prevention coalition and regularly attended multiple county coalitions and workgroups, partnering with school districts, other educational organizations, community service providers, and faith communities. As a senior therapist in my unit I shared responsibility for regular team- and morale-building within the unit, as well as providing training, guidance, and mentorship to new staff members.Prior to my position as prevention therapist, I spent three years as an emergency services clinician. I conducted assessments for young people in acute mental health crises, helping youths and their families choose and access the most appropriate supportive services for them in that moment. I also completed intake appointments to enroll young people in ongoing therapy services. My first six years with CMHA-CEI were spent as a home- and community-based children's therapist, working in community sites throughout the tri-county area to provide therapeutic services to youth and their families.
