Brief Summary:This research involved the synthesis and characterization of transition metal complexes containing the precious Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). Two types of aminophosphine ligands were used in the preparation of the complexes, which were then screened as catalyst in some asymmetric transformation reactions - hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation and Suzuki Miyaura Cross Coupling reactions. All complexes screened demonstrated catalytic activity and the ability to initiate chiral induction, which makes them a significant addition to catalytic science. Show less

This research involved the synthesis and characterization of transition metal complexes containing the precious Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) and non-precious first row transition metals. The novel tridentate phosphine iminopyridines ligand was used in the preparation of these complexes, which were screened and showed some catalytic activity in selected asymmetric hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation reactions. Combined with the MPhil work, a total of 27 catalytic complexes were prepared, 25 were novel. All complexes screened demonstrated catalytic activity and the ability to initiate chiral induction, which makes them a significant addition to catalytic science. Show less
