Assisted a graduate student, Julie Slater, with field work in 6 of Ohio’s peat bogs using quadrat and transect sampling; plant and water samples were taken, along with electrical conductivity, pH and temperature measurements. In the lab, plants were pressed and identified with dichotomous keys, water was filtered using suction and paper filters, and data was entered into Excel.

In this position I performed invasive species control and assisted with the construction of a wetland. I have gained experience using a backpack pesticide sprayer and have pulled many cattails. When constructing the wetland, I used an excavator to remove drainage tile; a laser level to determine where the wetland edge would be, the deepest point, and what height the berm needed to be; and I set the outflow pipe at the proper elevation for the wetland.
