      Sept 2021 - Jun 2024

As an honors thesis student, I have developed a study on whether different types of gestures (iconic, deictic, or none) help 5- to 12-year-olds perform better in a memory task. For this, I have produced all relevant materials such as testing instruments, Qualtrics survey to collect data, participant / counterbalance sheet, and procedure guidelines and protocols for replicability. I have also established relationships with local schools and after-school programs to recruit participants. In my year long position as the Developmental Psychology teaching assistant, I hosted weekly office hours, led exam review sessions, and scheduled one-on-one meetings with students to support the professor’s teaching of the material. I also graded approximately 220 exams total (2 midterms per semester, for 2 semesters) and had the chance to speak to the class each semester about my own research experiences to encourage them to get involved. As one of three International Orientation Directors, I was in charge of all of the programming and supervising of the 2022 International Orientation. Along with my co-directors, we revamped the International Orientation schedule by meeting with college Deans and creating a more enjoyable and informative orientation experience for incoming international students to better support their adjustment to (college) life in the United States. I facilitated weekly TA sessions and small group meetings to answer questions and re-visit lessons to help students be comfortable with the course material. Through this role, I learned to provide constructive mathematical feedback by grading 90 problems sets each week. In this position, I created answer keys for problem sets every other week (alternated with the other TA) to speed up the grading process. I also hosted weekly TA sessions to answer any homework questions the students had.

At Dr. Andrei Cimpian’s lab, I have gained extensive experience in both leading research projects and managing a lab. My current research work involves co-authoring a manuscript on the development of fragile masculinity in (pre-)pubescent boys, and supervising a study focused on the development of awareness and endorsement of gender-based power differentials. I have presented my findings of the latter study at two national conferences (pictures below). Most recently on the administrative side, I have trained and supported incoming lab managers to ease the lab’s transition period to new leadership. Show less
