  As an intern at Daito Design, I had the opportunity take part in the design process firsthand for the development of three mobile applications for Mutual Mobile centered on education. I learned the importance of on-field research data to create a product of value early on, and was tasked with creating app maps and customer journey maps to help improve the user experience. Applying design thinking processes in a real-life context outside of the classroom was definitely an eye-opening experience as I witnessed how the project managers, designers, developers, and quality assurance all worked together to create the product in an agile environment.One of the most valuable things I learned on the job was the complete process of developing mobile applications, and how that process can change significantly depending on the company’s goals. Working under the direct supervision of the chief design officer, I witnessed the way he handled tensions between the different groups within the company. Between analyzing data, taking part in the design process, and using project management tools to manage certain company activities, I learned a lot more than I expected at my first internship.
