      Summer intern

Habitat for Humanity China aims to provide simple and decent homes to those in need. The Shanghai office specifically specializes in urban renovation and rural reconstruction, building homes for low-income and elderly residents in rural areas of Shanghai and Zhejiang province. My primary office duties included researching potential cities for HFH China build expansions and drafting bilingual post-renovation reports and volunteer guidelines. Out of the office, I visited homes to collect data, photograph homes, and assist the team as assigned. My internship also coincided with the Happy Move Build in the rural town of Pinghu, China, where I was responsible for photo taking, maintaining building safety standards, and volunteer morale. Americorps: early literacy tutor

The mission of A Community for Education (ACE) is to help K-2 readers reach target literacy levels by third grade, effectively setting them up with the knowledge and confidence for academic success early on. ACE works toward this goal by placing AmeriCorps members in low-income schools to provide one-on-one intensive literacy training for select students. As an Early Literacy Tutor, I implemented research-based curriculum to help my assigned students achieve their appropriate literacy goals. This also required careful data collection and logging into databases, and close communication with teachers, school administrators, and supervisors. At the end of my AmeriCorps year, I completed 1700 service hours that included daily tutoring sessions, participation in community events, and partnerships with local organizations for increased community outreach. Aug 2014 - Mar 2018
      International affairs manager

My overarching objective was to develop and support the university’s rapidly growing international community of just over 200 people. I did this through inward-facing efforts that focus on the end-to-end development of the community culture itself, and outward-facing efforts of English media and press. For community development, I was responsible for planning and managing major events including the New International Student Orientation, annual international dinner parties, and various cultural events. Outside of event planning, I also served as the Campus Advisor Program Director where I recruited, trained, and managed a team of eight student staff whose primary goals are to support international students in their daily lives and push for integration between communities. In terms of media work, I oversaw the university’s English media and online presence. I produced both written and visual content, as well as managed the curation of student-produced articles and media as the sitting general director of the English Media Team. I also served as the webmaster of the official English university website, created and managed thenanyan.com, and actively maintained the school’s social media platforms. Show less
