      General education elementary classroom teacher

I entered the field of teaching through the NYC Teaching Fellows Program. Their goal was to recruit individuals who don't necessarily have a background in teaching, but may be able to bring their varied backgrounds to NYC students. I was attracted to the program because I was a student in the NYC public school system and I felt I could infuse a love of learning for our youth.Teaching was not as easy as I had initially thought! As a matter of fact, it was tough, but with the support and guidance of Principals, Assistant Principals, mentors, and other fellows I learned so much.Throughout my teaching years at the NYC DOE, my biggest accomplishments were:- building strong relationships/brainstorming/planning with my colleagues- getting my students excited about learning- helping my students grow academically, as well as emotionally- using my creativity to enhance my lessons/units of study- growing professionally as an educator- creating new curriculum programs- infusing the arts into learning with hands-on projects and regular visits to the many cultural institutions in the city- developing strong relationships with parents to support their child's learning- infusing technology into everyday learning Show less

    • Private tutor

      Sept 2011 - Sept 2017
      Tutor

I really enjoyed working one-on-one with students who were struggling with reading and/or math. I was successful in helping all of my students strive to reach their full potential and succeed. Utilizing a growth mindset approach really paid off in bolstering student confidence! All of the parents were 100% satisfied with my techniques and strategies!

    • The center for architecture and design

      Jan 2014 - Sept 2014
      Design educator

I was lucky enough to meet the staff at the Center for Architecture when I first entered the field of teaching. I have always had a passion for design and architecture, and was extremely excited when they offered me this position. I was able to collaborate and brainstorm with the Director of Design as well as other Design Educators as to themes that we could work on with the students. This was an awesome learning experience for me! I had the chance to work with kids at the Center as well as go offsite to schools. Show less

      Reading intervention specialist

Being a Reading Intervention Specialist gave me the opportunity to work with students who were reading below grade level in a small group setting. I was able to learn so much about these students, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. All of the kids that I worked with were successful in increasing their reading levels to on grade level! This was an amazing accomplishment for them, and I was very proud of their hard work and determination!

    • Valley stream ufsd 30 - forest road elementary school

      Sept 2017 - Jun 2020
      Permanent substitute teacher

Since I started at Forest Road school, I was consistently chosen to cover long term leave replacement positions. I was been able to develop strong relationships with administration, colleagues, students, and parents. My biggest accomplishment was the creation and launch of a STEAM based Design and Architecture program. This program introduced kids to architecture. They were also given opportunities to solve real-world problems by collaborating with each other, testing out ideas, and finally making their design ideas come to life! At the conclusion of each program, students had the opportunity to present their ideas to each other as well as their parents. Show less

General education elementary classroom teacher in an ict classroom

This was the first year in my teaching career where I worked as the General Education teacher in a Grade 3 Inclusion classroom setting. Although the school year was challenging due to the pandemic, our school was lucky enough to spend most of the year offering in-person learning for the students. During times when we had to switch to remote learning, we utilized Google Classroom and Google Meet to ensure continuation of learning through a virtual classroom. My Co-Teacher and I were able to capitalize on a smaller class size with both of us being able to truly differentiate individual instruction. We both worked collaboratively to ensure all of our students had opportunities to shine! We integrated various interactive technologies for our students to demonstrate their understanding of learning goals and concepts. I also developed strong relationships with my colleagues, parents, and administration. Show less
