Completion of Nuffield Research Placement Josh Hillman (Director Education, Nuffield Foundation) Nov 2019 I learned how to code for (pseudo) Random Number Generators (RNGs) using Python 3.7, with the purpose of helping and under my mentor in his PHD: "acceleration of Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations" which involved the optimisation of parallel RNGs. I was made aware of the importance of RNGs to manufacturing industries as it is used to model catalysis reactions, allowing firms to establish which catalysts are the most effective in production.

Completion of Bio-Inspired Robotics Summer School Programme UCL ( faculty of engineering sciences) Jul 2018 In a group we learned how to code on a micro-bit in java script to mimic the movements of insects in the robots we had developed, using a remote controller to operate it e.g in the robot caterpillar we used the sine wave function in our code. I also learnt about the future applications of drones and its links to industry e.g measuring pollution levels, reducing dependency on human capital.

Headstart science and engineering experience course Julie Feest (chief executive of the EDT) Jun 2018 I won a scholarship from Ashcroft Academy to attend a course in Chemistry and chemical engineering in Queen's University Belfast. During which I learned how to operate in a lab manufacturing chemicals like aspirin and polymer-gels and learning how to carry out analytical techniques e.g chromatography. I also learned more about the economical links to chemical engineering as firms will aim to increase their atom economy and percentage yield in order to minimise their marginal costs.
