      Initially employed as an accounts clerk and subsequently promoted to Assistant Accountant for a family run group of companies involved in Engineering, Furniture Manufacture, and Draughtsmanship. I supervised a small department of 3 staff and was responsible for all work up to and including trial balance using manual systems and later transfer to computer bureau services plus control of the administration.

I was employed as Accountant/Office Manager in 1976 when the company was a privately run family organisation, to install accounting systems and Quarterly Accounting and Management reporting. I was promoted to Company Secretary/Accountant in 1980 which covered all duties of the position and the administration of the company. On the sale of the company in April 1982 I was given the position of Chief Accountant and the Company Secretarial functions were transferred to the Plc's head office. I then reported to the M.D. , also Division of the Plc., and to Group Level with monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts and was involved in the wider management of the Company. My duties with the Company included :All Accountancy matters including budgeting, cash flow forecasts, VAT, PAYE / NHI, Accounts preparation for audit and internal reporting,.General administration, Insurances, PensionsPersonnel mattersTransfer of the original systems onto computer bureau and subsequently to in house computer systems.       I was employed to take over the full financial and administration of the group with a Financial Directorship promised within a year and to replace the existing accountant who the company were not happy with. I had the unfortunate task of having to advise them of the seriousness of their financial position. I negotiated with the Bank for further finance and wrote a report of the overall position for the BankI sorted out and improved poor accounting and administration systems and did all I could to improve the immediate situation.
