Before arriving in South Africa, I completed all of the standard preliminary research tasks including writing an extensive literature review, informed consent/assent forms, and a complete interview guide. I recruited and recorded in-depth interviews with adolescent girls between the ages of 16-22 with the goal of answering the question: how do adolescent girls form personal conceptions of sexual agency and risks for sexual health in urban South African townships?
