      Summer bat monitor

Student Conservation Association Intern working for Mammoth Cave National Park and the Cumberland Piedmont Network.Working for Mammoth Cave National Park and the Cumberland Piedmont Network, I utilize night vision goggles, infrared camera and lights, FLIR and other equipment to monitor and collect data on bat emergence and reentry at cave entrances and structural bat roosts across the Park, each with a specific and limited window within which to collect data. Most locations are in back country woods, requiring hiking with heavy equipment to the location, working with a team of two other interns and occasionally Park volunteers to setup equipment, monitor the entrance for 1hr and 15min, packing up and navigating back to base in the dark via gps late at night. SD data is copied to intern laptop and backed up to external hard drives. Videos are manually watched to determine a more precise emergence/reentry count. I must represent SCA and MACA with professionalism and guard data and cave locations with integrity. I wear a uniform and regularly interact with Park staff and visitors. This is a summer internship starting June 17th, 2019 with expiration on September 28th, 2019, that was extended to November 29th, 2019.Check my SCA Interview: https://www.thesca.org/connect/blog/mammoth-cave-intern-hangs-out-bats Show less
