      As a Student Assistant I supported the development of a statewide Lane Mile Inventory system that collects state trunkline lane miles and is used to allocate county maintenance funds. My duties included creating and maintaining GIS databases and performing quality control on transportation asset data. I supported GIS software installation and training as well as created thematic maps and reports pertaining to assets managed by the department.

I also developed an analysis tool for the Cincinnati Police Department to use in their crime analysis. Most of this work was done individually and under minimal supervision.

I utilized simple and effective GIS data collection techniques to create a food outlet database and conduct a food system inventory of Prince George's County, Maryland. Working in a team of two we complied an initial food system report that laid the framework for a countywide food system study now taking place.

      As a Volunteer Intern my main duties included educating the corporation on census data as it related to the neighborhood. This included historical research, demographic and social analysis, and neighborhood comparisons that were represented graphically and in written reports. I gave presentations of my analysis to the corporation board and compiled my work into a census data-book for the neighborhood that is now being used to facilitate their decision-making process.

      As a working out of class supervisor I fill a needed management role for MDOT's new and expanding GIS area. I lead a team of four GIS staff and two student assistants on a variety of GIS projects and I coordinate GIS support between multiple vendors on the implementation of MDOT's new Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS), a GIS, web-based application.The GIS Unit supports geospatial technology and software for the entire department, including over 800 users. Our mission is to encourage innovation using GIS in order to provide the highest quality integrated transportation services for economic benefit and improved quality of life. Our strategy is to use location to turn data into actionable information that can be used to better inform decisions on MDOT's transportation infrastructure.The unit is responsible for the following:-Management of MDOT's enterprise GIS databases-MDOT's ArcGIS Online organization site & Open Data Portal-Creation & maintenance of web services-Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS) implementation-GIS training & software support for the department-Road Asset Inventory Program Show less I work as a Transportation Planner and Lead Worker within MDOT's GIS Unit. I serve as the recognized resource for online GIS technology, applications, and web services within the department. Administering MDOT's ArcGIS Online organization account I find ways to innovate existing business processes using GIS. These projects range from open data to public facing web applications and mobile data collection projects. In a supporting role I act as a back-up manager for our versioned enterprise GIS databases including setting data standards and working with business owners to migrate data into our GIS environment.
