    • Grads For Growth

      Mar 2013 - Oct 2015
      Business Development Manager

An exciting project providing support to SME’s throughout the South West to set up key business projects related to innovation and growth. Working with businesses to identify their ability to grow and to recruit graduates to undertake those projects, including project scoping, advertising of positions, interviewing with businesses and providing support throughout the lifespan of the projects, recruiting appropriate academic/mentor support. Project achievements include:• 131 projects were approved in 114 businesses. Of these, 26 were withdrawn because a graduate was not recruited and 22 were withdrawn for ‘other’ reasons, the end result being 83 graduates placed (98% of target) in 69 businesses. • The Project achieved a strong output performance, achieving all of its targets with the exception of the number of new businesses assisted. Importantly, G4G exceeded its targets relating to firms involved in collaborative R&D and the Knowledge Base. • Results also show a positive picture with 70% of the jobs created target having already been achieved. The number of research jobs created demonstrates that they are of a good quality and high value. 40 of the businesses supported have already created a staggering 139 new products or services between them which is an impressive achievement. • G4G has already exceeded its Gross Value Added (GVA) target by 203% and its employment target by 108%. • Nearly 80% of businesses said that their project objectives had either been exceeded or fully met and 63% stated that their turnover had gone up as a direct result of G4G. • The graduates themselves also reported benefits in that the experience had enabled them to gain a wide range of new skills and 76% will be retained by the company after their project. Furthermore, 64% of businesses stated that they would be ‘likely to employ another graduate soon’ showing how G4G has helped to keep graduate talent within the region. Show less

Many businesses say that their people are their most important asset; perhaps it’s time to invest in them and give them a flying start? Flying Start is the catalyst for growing businesses who are taking on new staff and entering a brave new world. So you need an extra pair of hands, and they need to be skilled in certain areas, but what else could this new recruit achieve for you?Remember- a new member of staff is an opportunity to get new things done, not just do the same old things more effectively. We guide and mentor new recruits in the first few months of their role to maximise the impact they have at that critical time when they are a ‘new resource’. Show less
