The issue concerns the image of female characters and characters belonging to the LGBTQ community in literary adaptations in African cinemas in parallel with feminist movements. The central question of this project is: how do the writers and directors of each country exploit the notions of 'female agency' and 'empowerment' in representative works of feminist movements in the 20th century?
