  -Worked as a summer research assistant in Dr. Scott Soleimanpour’s lab in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes, which studies the role of beta cell mitophagy (the mitochondrial quality control pathway) in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus. -Successfully cloned a diseased variant of the CLEC16a gene, a key mitophagy regulator, and presented those findings at a research symposium in December 2019. Summer intern at the Michigan Institute of Clinical and Health Research (MICH-R). Sought to expand community and physician access to the FDA’s compassionate use program, which seeks to provide patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options with access to potentially life-saving (if investigational) therapies.
