PhD Biomedical Engineer at Hawler Medical University

  • Education

    • Salahaddin University-Erbil

      2001 - 2004
Master’s Degree Nuclear Physics very good - 1st honour

The project was about increasing the efficiency of nuclear power

    • Salahaddin University-Erbil

      1993 - 1997
      Bachelor’s Degree Engineering Physics/Applied Physics good - 1st honour
    • Newcastle University

      2013 - 2017
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Biomedical/Medical Engineering

The project is about helping blind people to see again (restoring sight). It is a challenging project, especially in reducing the cost from $150,000 to $200 and with increasing the efficiency and the quality of 16X comparing with the other devices.

    • Salahaddin University / College of Science

      Feb 1998 - Jul 2004
      Lab Demonstrator

Teaching practical physics such as solid state of matter, atomic, electronic, electricity and magnetism, nuclear, properties of matter, optics, thermodynamics and programming basic language.Helping the department librarian as a part of my role.Rewriting all the lab sheet in the modern ways.Adding and setting up new experiments in the labs.

    • Soran Technical Institute

      Jul 2004 - Aug 2008
      Head of Computer Department

      • Head of department that was by managing staffs and students.• Teaching the MS Windows, MSOffice, Web design using HTML, Security information, visual basic and C language programming. • Member in the examination committee and a member in computer science curriculum in Kurdistan region for monitoring and modifying IT subjects developments in computer departments. • I was able to work under pressure, work independently using my own initiative and work as part of a team.

    • Hawler Medical University

      Aug 2008 - now

      • Lecturer at College of Medicine/Biophysics department, I was teaching practical medical physics both in the lab and in hospital (2008 – 2012). Experiences and teaching in how apparatuses in medical physics such as eye test tools are functioned. Teaching MS-Windows, MSOffice to students in College of Medicine, Dentist College and College of Nursing. Teaching practical medical physics to the students in College of Science. Teaching in very professional and modern ways. The techniques I used made the students more curious to learn and prepare home works every week. That also made me very busy because I needed to revive more than 300 emails from all the schools every week.• Student administrator manager part of my role as a lecturer 2008 – 2009. Member in the medical committee looking after student’s absence in the medical issues.Preparing certificates and graduation progress for approximately 600 to 800 students. Monitoring student attendances in the college and in the hospitals.Developed a new program (using MS Excel) for recording student absence observation. Created a new computerised system for student data processing, student graduation certificates. Dealing with multicultural issues, understanding and managing problems faced by students such as financial problems. • IT manager from 2009 to 2011, being responsible for managing computer software.• IT manager in the examination committee in 2011-2012, monitoring and managing IT services. • Data editing (MS-Access) for security reason and I was the only person who can delete and edit the data. • Newcastle University

      Apr 2013 - May 2018
      PHD Candidate

      • Been invited as a keynote speaker in “Artificial Vision”, Aachen – Germany 2015 • Presenting a conference paper “Wireless data and power transfer of an optogenetic implantable visual cortex stimulator” in EMBC, Milan - Italy 2015 • Been invited as a keynote speaker in Brain Hardcourt Memorial Meeting, Hazlewood Castle, Leeds – UK 2016 • My PhD project is to help blind human being to regain vision by creating a fully implantable wireless optogenetic visual cortical stimulator for biomedical application. Skills and experiences used in this project; a) Wireless power transfer system - analogue circuit (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7320250/) b) C Programming of the oscillator, microcontroller and the raspberry pi for image processing, image compression, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and data encoding. c) Matlab implementation of image simplification and image processing in the Raspberry pi (Image enhancement, TRON, Cartoonization and Edge overlaying) d) Python and Linux code, sending data over Bluetooth Low Energy. e) Low power PCB design (6 Layer) using LPC4330 ARM Cortex M4F microcontroller. The NI circuit design utilized for circuit schematic and PCB layout for version 1 and Altium Designer for version 2. f) Temperature change calculation and measurement was carefully precise for the microcontroller regarding the PCB size and implanting inside humans head. g) Using Google SketchUp and Autodesk Inventor for the 3D model design.
