  • Revise the brochure for Cherish the Children Learning Center.,• Re-organize the files and office of the director of the children's center. When the licensing authority visited the end of July, the number of citations dropped from 15 on the previous visit to 3, enabling the center to stay open. My support was key to this result.

  As half of the admin team, directly support the founder of the organization. • Schedule meetings, compose routine and confidential correspondence.• Create and manage external and internal communications: website, annual report, newsletters, brochure, meeting minutes, photos and videos. • Write grants, advise on fundraising strategies, sell Kashmiri products in the US and New Zealand. • Enter and maintain confidential and highly sensitive payroll and human resources data for 31 employees: hiring, firing, payroll, sick leave, etc. • Help the Hope Disability Centre work effectively with a major global nonprofit: Handicap International (HI). • Perform highly responsible liaison with high level management, officials and representatives of HI, and the Indian government. • Created the complete operations handbook for the organization: HR, Finance, Admin, Logistics, and Programs. It was one of the top requirements for the joint project.The twelve month trial with HI was so successful that HI continues to work with the Hope Disability Centre today. Show less

  Live and serve in the Olive Branch house; a homeless shelter for women and children. Menu planning, cooking, cleaning, and support for the residents and the other volunteers. Teach introductory classes in Nonviolent Communication for the Duluth community, and lead the effort to get a Time Bank started in Duluth.

  Help create the tree database for the Portland Fruit Tree Project. Identify food-bearing trees, interview homeowners, enter tree data into the database. While working as a tree scout, I also taught NonViolent Communication classes to Portland area activists, and worked with a team to invent Community Supported Everything, an innovative, effective, and inexpensive way to seek input, listen, and support community members from a broad range of cultures. Also converted the outside space of Ted Buehler's property from construction debris to a beautiful outdoor seating space with productive gardens. Show less

  • Help create this innovative intentional community around permaculture and Nonviolent Communication (NVC). • Advise on strategy, set up and coordinate visioning exercises for the founders. • Organize weekly strategy meetings, write and publish the meeting minutes on Google Docs, and keep a log of decisions taken and issues to address. • Design and publish the organization's website. • Design and create a brush deer fence to enclose a 5000 square foot garden. • Recruit, help feed, and supervise WWOOFers. • Facilitate two 8-week courses in compassionate communication for the larger Vashon community. • Organize, promote, and facilitate a two-week residential certificate course in Permaculture, with 24 attendees. Coordinate and supervise the kitchen team. Create meals from the food gifts brought by the course attendees every day, customized for all dietary restrictions. In two weeks, all meals and snacks were served on time and people loved them. Show less

Conduct a retail census of all the pesticides and herbicides sold on Vashon. Research pesticides, design database, accurately enter data, and maintain database. Design and distribute a gardening guide to retailers based on the information. Interview local farms and gardeners on their use of pesticides. Train 30 retail staff in nontoxic alternatives, organize, promote, and give public talks on alternatives to toxic pesticides. Network with eight community groups. With King County funding, create promotional and education materials for sharing with the public, retail staff, and managers on the dangers of and alternatives to toxic pesticides. Write and present reports to King County and the Vashon community. Result: Vashon retailers are removing many of the most toxic pesticides from their shelves and replacing them with nontoxic alternatives. Show less
