Freshmark (shoprite)
Jan 2015 - Jan 2016Buyers designateMy job description at Shoprite is the sole buyer and account manager for fruits and vegetables for all Shoprite stores across Africa, including Zambia, Malawi Mozambique North, Mozambique South, Mauritius, Uganda, DRC Angola and Ghana. I was responsible to arrange stock worth R3.5 million per month for all the above mentioned countries’ Shoprite stores, the deliveries to the distribution centre and the distribution of all the stock into Africa. Furthermore I'm also responsible to make sure that all cross-border documents and permits were done and correct. I was in constant communication with all management on store level in Africa as well as with the suppliers to ensure that the stores always had sufficient stock and of the best quality. I learned to negotiate with suppliers on pricing levels as well as with the stores on planning their desired quantities. I often visited suppliers and formed good relationships with suppliers. I am the manager of various operations staff to ensure that the operational side runs correctly, as well as the manager of various admin personnel that did Africa administration. Exibir menos

Shoprite supermarkets
Jul 2016 - Jun 2017BuyerI was promoted earlier this year from buyers designate to a buyer, currently I am a fruit buyer for all the Shoprite, checkers and USave stores in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces (total of 370 stores). I buy various fruits including all stone fruit, all citrus, all grapes, all melons and a few other lines. I also do a lot of imports on stone fruits and grapes during winter months. I have 48 lines on my file and have an average of 3-8 suppliers per line, thus I deal with suppliers a lot on a daily basis regarding prices and volumes. I visit fresh produce markets each day, sometimes 6 days a week in order to get a sense of the market trends and where the market is heading. I communicate a lot with retailers in store level to determine how volumes are moving to adjust my planning accordingly. I am also responsible for price formulations and work a lot on history and price comparisons in order to formulate a price that reach my GP target but to still be competitive amongst the competition. I am also responsible to create my own module and to achieve my own budget, and therefore am very analytical. My file run on an estimate 5-8 Million per week with an average budget target of 22-24 %. I also have to calculate how much stock to keep in the pack house as I only get my final in-store order 2 days prior, this can come challenging as one can never run short of stock, but also never have too much stock, orders then can also drop or increase significantly. There is a lot of management involved, managing stock levels, managing rejections and low supply, managing competitive pricing, and also to manage relationships with farmers, operations and admin.
