      Master's degree biomedical sciences distinction

Graduated with Distinction. Here I obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences where I was even more exposed to scientific research. I also obtained my Felasa accreditation which enables me to work with lab animals. The European student exchange program (Erasmus) which is a part of this course gave me the opportunity to go to the University of Glasgow for my thesis where I characterised the CARP4 gene of Trypanosoma brucei as one of the cAMP effector proteins and Investigated its… Show more Graduated with Distinction. My Ph.D. was sponsored by the European Commission 7th Framework programme with the aim of targeting the phosphodiesterase enzymes of the kinetoplastid parasites and Schistosoma. The project was titled the Parasite-specific cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase inhibitors to target neglected parasitic diseases (PDE4NPD consortium). Part of my PhD work was the expression and characterization of the phosphodiesterase enzymes of the kinetoplastids in a cellular system using different molecular biology techniques. I have presented my researches at conferences in the UK (BSP and other conferences), Europe, Brazil (SPBz) and the USA (Gordon Research conferences) and this gives me excellent presentation skills. Postdoc at Musah lab Duke University working on the application of stem cell biology to engineer functional models of human kidney disease. I am drawing on my strong molecular biology, biochemistry and microbiology background to understand the mechanism of human kidney disease• Maintained and performed directed differentiation of iPS cells into mature cell types (podocytes, vascular endothelial cells).• Investigated and generated data to increase understanding of SARS-CoV-2 entry mechanism in podocytes by infecting human iPS cell-derived podocytes with packaged S-pseudotyped lentivirus and live SARS-CoV-2 virus. Work highlighted in Duke Daily, FORBES MAGAZINE, FORBES, EurekAlert AAAS etc.• Collaborated on projects pertaining to the identification of novel therapeutics and biomarkers for CKD using human induced pluripotent stem-cell derived podocytes.• Drafted and documented protocols and SOPs for the lab, Show less
