  Patient care technician

  - As a Summer Patient Care Technician (PCT), I assist nurses and providers with a multitude of tasks. This includes monitoring vital signs, pulse oximetry, Point of Care testing such as Blood Glucose monitoring, properly setting up heart telemetry monitoring and EKGs, assisting with admissions/patient transfers, monitoring patient inputs and outputs, helping patients to safely perform activities of daily living, and assisting with personal care, hygiene, feeding, toileting, and bathing needs. - In this role, I aim to serve as a positive member of the patient’s care team, constantly attending to not only all physical needs, but also mental and emotional aspects of hospitalization and illness. In doing so, I have strengthened my communication, compassion, empathy, and interpersonal skills. - Pay close attention to patient condition, identify any changes in patient status, such as abnormal vital signs, changes in pain, or concerns observed visually, and promptly notify RNs. - Prioritize patient safety by focusing on proper use of fall risk protocol, bed alarms, patient-specific precautions, and isolations.- Grow teamwork and communication skills working with the whole care team and coworkers to ensure all needs of patients are met while contributing to a successful, positive, and caring workplace. - Demonstrate flexibility by floating to other units, including Geriatric Psychiatry, CCU, and Extended Care.- Create meaningful relationships with nursing staff and fellow PCTs who share a love for patient care and making a difference in patients’ days. - Use of MediTech charting systems and Accu-Chek blood glucose monitoring.
