In my research project I investigated the role nature plays in emotion regulation. The preliminary results show that the higher the nature connectedness the less difficulty in emotion regulation people have; nature connectedness is a good predictor of emotion regulation.

With growing research evidence that nature promotes human wellbeing, I am is dedicated to promoting the practice of forest bathing as a pathway to nature connectedness. Forest bathing is a holistic, sensory experience that involves immersing oneself in the natural environment, and has been shown to have a range of physical and mental health benefits.Vision: We envision a world where everyone embarks on a lifelong journey of harmony with the forest. Guided by the Japanese concepts of Shinrin Yoku and Kokoro, our vision is to foster deeper connections between individuals and nature, promoting a shared understanding that we are part of a larger ecosystem. We strive to create a global community wherein the wisdom of the forest shapes the heart and mind of humanity, enhancing our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing while fostering a profound respect and responsibility for our natural environment.Mission: Our mission at The Mindful Tourist. 森の心・人の心 Journey Through Life With the Wisdom of the Forest is to inspire, educate, and empower individuals as they traverse their unique life paths, using the practices of Shinrin Yoku and the principle of Kokoro. As accredited Shinrin Yoku guides and instructors, we are dedicated to facilitating transformative nature immersion experiences that foster deep, meaningful connections between the self and the natural world. We provide comprehensive, culturally respectful training rooted in the Japanese tradition, supporting the development of guides and instructors around the globe. Our goal is to nourish the human spirit, promote personal growth, and contribute to the global movement towards environmental sustainability and mutual respect between humans and nature. Show less

      Founder

Prompted by global challenges and increased human disconnection, Milena founded the Shinrin Yoku Association (SYA). It is rooted in three core concepts: Shinrin Yoku, Kokoro, and new humanism, which collectively explore the essence of humanity in the modern world.Shinrin Yoku, or forest bathing, promotes reconnection with nature, mindfulness, and immersion in the natural world. This practice embodies new humanism's principles of interconnection and mutual empathy, fostering a holistic perspective on existence. The concept of Kokoro complements this. Representing the heart, mind, and spirit, Kokoro signifies a balanced approach to life and reaffirms the interconnectedness of individual well-being with the health of others and the natural world.Recognizing the synergies between Shinrin Yoku, Kokoro, and new humanism, Milena established SYA to promote a more empathetic and understanding world. She envisioned these principles enhancing dialogue, promoting cooperation, and fostering shared responsibility in addressing global issues.Under Milena's leadership, SYA has become a vanguard in promoting Shinrin Yoku, inspiring connections with nature, and fostering well-being. It provides training and support for Shinrin Yoku practitioners, research advancement, and advocates for the integration of Shinrin Yoku in various sectors such as education, healthcare, and community wellness.SYA acknowledges the need to understand Shinrin Yoku within broader contexts, like its deep historical roots, cultural nuances, and alignment with our evolutionary connection to nature. Respecting these cultural variances ensures a diverse and inclusive practice. The association also recognizes Shinrin Yoku's role in addressing environmental challenges. The practice fosters a deeper appreciation of nature, inspiring sustainable actions and offers health benefits such as stress reduction, mood improvement, and immune system boost. Show less
