  Prior to arriving in St. Eustatius I carried out a literature review and identified that there was a limited number of scientific literature published on the Antillean Crested Hummimgbird (Orthorhyncus cristatus). Consequently, I designed a study aiming to identify feeding and territorial behaviours to build a platform for more specialised research in the future. As a result of 3 months of data collection I made some interesting behavioural observations that are unique to O. cristatus, it has been confirmed the findings will be published in volume 29 of the Caribbean Journal of Ornithology (2016).   Conducting an ecological study of the coastal marine habitat in Maio, Cape Verde. Investigating the ecological requirements of endemic cone snails (conus). This was completed in collaboration with the foundation of Maio biodiversity (FMB) and was funded by the University of Bath. For the study a CITES licence was gained to collect specimens for genetic analysis. It is anticipated the findings will be published in 2016/2017 as several papers in an effort to strengthen local conservation action undertaken by FMB. While working with FMB I also conducted bird surveys, marine megafauna surveys and was instrumental in the capture and successful release of two pantropical spotted dolphins that had become trapped along the shoreline.
