As an infantry platoon commander I would frequently find myself co-ordinating a wide variety of specialists to achieve operational goals within our area of responsibility. At the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick, I began by training team of eight experienced instructors, supported by specialist resources, to deliver the 26 week long Combat Infantryman Course, taking recruits from their first day in the Army to being ready to deploy on operations with only theatre specific training. This role was conducted with a high levelMy final role within the regular Army was as 'Scots Division Captain' at the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick. I had to manage the career management, discipline and resourcing of the Royal Regiment of Scotland training company, consisting 70 permanent staff and over 400 recruits at any one time. Show less

The Northern Farming Conference aims to give farmers and those advising them information on the industry influences that will help them plan their business for the following year. It has been running every autumn since the first event in October 2010 at Newcastle Racecourse and since 2011 has attracted over 300 delegates. Every year Defra has sent ministerial attendance, except in 2012, when the Ash Dieback disease crisis led to a backbench MP representing Lord de Mauley.I was a founder member and first secretary of the organising committee, first discussing the idea with a farming friend one evening over the kitchen table. I led the organisation for the first four events before handing over the post to concentrate on professional development. Show less
