      Apr 2010 - Jun 2010
      Features intern

This is a reputable newspaper that prides itself on high standards of English and maintains a neutral view within all writing. To my knowledge, I was one of the luckiest interns because I was offered the opportunity to contribute over 25 feature stories and earned 15 by-lines, which are numbers that are not easily achievable as an intern. Also, I was able to conduct food reviews and attend press conferences independently as a representative of this newspaper.

    • Rolling stone

Within my brief internship here I conducted research for articles, contributed story ideas and compiled content for regular sections like News and Quiz.

    • Nextgen publishing ltd.

      May 2011 - Mar 2012
      Feature writer

My time here centred around researching, writing and editing articles for the Ideal Home and Garden magazine. I actively participated in the ideation and editorial production process along with my managing editor, designer and other team members.A big part of my job was organizing shoots for the magazine spreads, which involved sourcing products from high-end stores and street markets, ensuring that they are handled in the right way and duly returned to the owners after the shoot.

    • Spenta multimedia

      Jul 2012 - Mar 2015
      Senior sub editor

This particular job really helped me develop the range and style of my writing abilities and my editing skills. I also gained exposure in photography as I was entrusted by my editor to click photographs for 5 stories in Marwar India magazine's ‘Shekhawati Special’ issue. One of my photographs even graced the cover of the magazine.A lot of my communication and interaction skills were also developed in this position because I interviewed people from all walks of life: artisans, social workers, business professionals, politicians, chefs, designers or other individuals to help me collect material for articles I wrote on fashion, art and culture, travel, food, business and people’s profiles. I networked with PR professionals to help me find new avenues for content and get introduced to other people who I could interview. I also developed experience managing professional business relationships because this was one of the first opportunities I had to work with teams from other companies on custom publications and assignments.I was responsible for editing the work of many writers and also managing the overall editorial production process from pagination and proofreading of pages to reviewing and approving final layouts. • Jack in the box worldwide

      Apr 2015 - Feb 2017

Content strategy was a major focus for me in this role. I met with a lot of clients to discuss the type of topics to cover; the most suitable formats (short articles, long-form, infographics, photo essays or videos) to connect with the target audience; the "tone" of the editorial voice in keeping with the brand personality and objective; the overall layout of the website; and to plan the user journey and experience to help the customers of our clients navigate to find more products or services that would generate sales and revenue. Other components of my content strategy were to discuss the timelines and frequency of the content while coordinating with business development, social media and design teams on brand campaigns. The execution of the strategy involved delegating and managing the workload of a team of writers, ensuring the delivery of the creative assets from the design team and checking the layouts and webpages before the final uploads are made.Occasionally I would also work with freelance writers and guest contributors to commission assignments, create invoices and process payments. • Snapdeal

      Feb 2017 - Jan 2018
      Content editor

Snapdeal is one of the fastest-growing companies and leading e-commerce ventures in India. Working here gave me an idea of what it’s like to be in an innovative start-up. This matched my personality well since I have a passion for trying to see things differently and finding more effective and unique ways of creating and sharing content. It was a great learning experience to work across different content formats for the app's fashion section, blog, curated collections and other widgets. This was a position where also I built my skills in creating and editing branded content for print and online publications, writing copies for social media posts in English and Hindi for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and uploading content on the app’s internal Content Management System. • Recolor

      Feb 2018 - Aug 2019
      Senior content editor

This was a small but mighty team of 4 people that was dedicated to the launch and coordination of "Incolour", a creative colouring app for adults. However, we also relied upon and were expected to coordinate with other teams from Finland, Croatia and the Netherlands. My role encompassed deciding on the content buckets, developing and managing the social media calendar, composing the creative content for posts that were shared on the social media handles and managing the publishing timelines for articles and illustrations within the app.One of my major accomplishments in this role surrounds the deliveries I made in coordinating for a shoot with a celebrity ambassador (and leading Bollywood actor) and developing the scripts for more than 50 short videos. These scripts and video content were all my ideas and achieved a lot of success on social media. This wasn’t my only success though since I also spent time formulating the daily content themes such as Makeup Monday and Travel Tuesday to write and edit articles based on the app’s editorial calendar. I did this while responding to user queries on the app's customer support centre and social media accounts. Show less

    • Indigo

      Oct 2019 - Jan 2020
      Customer experience representative

The idea of applying to Indigo struck me when I was visiting one of their stores, browsing the Staff Picks section. I have always been an avid reader and found the idea of recommending books to people for a living absolutely delightful. The joy of being able to help people out, especially when they are happy with your assistance and recommendations, is both rewarding and encouraging. My role at Indigo, however, went much beyond that. Working at the cash counter, especially during peak shopping hours of the holiday season, involves a great deal of multitasking as you converse with the customer, handle multiple transactions at the same time, assemble the customer's shopping and carefully process payments.Working at one of the organization's busiest retail stores (CF Toronto Eaton Centre) was both exciting and challenging. The best part, however, was being surrounded by all the books, beautiful gifts and warm people. Show less

    • Wooftown

      Feb 2020 - now
      Daily operations manager

My Wooftown journey began in February 2020 when I was looking for a part-time job to tide me over until I found full-time employment. However, thanks to all the growth opportunities offered by the supportive management and a wholesome working environment, I was able to grow from the role of a retail associate into that of a daily operations manager. Along the way, I honed my retail skills (to such an extent that I am now the go-to person for calming down irate customers), and gathered in-depth knowledge about eCommerce, Shopify, and inventory management. Being promoted to manager was a challenging and exciting opportunity for me both professionally and personally. I used all the expertise I had garnered working across all the departments to make operational procedures more efficient, formulate staff and customer policies, create training manuals, and ensure that all the staff members feel motivated and valued by conducting regular one-on-one meetings with them. Applying my experience in content writing, I set up Wooftown’s email marketing program that runs at least 2 campaigns every week.Working at Wooftown has been a truly enriching experience. Not only is it one of the most loved local pet stores in Toronto, its management and staff includes some of the nicest people I’ve met in the city. As someone who moved across the world all by herself to start a new life, I truly appreciate the community feeling that Wooftown offers not just to its staff but also its customers, and, of course, the canines in Toronto and beyond!
