Co-founder of the NEEMO (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations) and SEATEST Projects, at times acting as the Mission Director, Deputy Project Manager, and Project Manager. Our team conducted 30 safe and successful subsea missions. Over the course of 23 NEEMO and 7 SEATEST missions, 62 astronauts were trained as aquanauts and conducted space analog missions from an undersea habitat. Several missions included submersible ops. Was also part of the leadership and execution teams of two Desert Research and Technology Studies (D-RATS) missions. All featured prominently in the immersive 3D Felix & Paul Studios production “The Explorers: Mission to the Moon” which highlighted how all 3 are used as international astronaut Expeditionary Training, human-in-the-loop (HITL) field testing, and preparation for returning to the Moon during the Artemis Program. This work happens across three seasons: Collaboration Building, Execution, and Documentation. Collaboration Building is the fundraising for the missions. There is not a line item budget, so funding comes from stitching together collaborative teams of stakeholders from across NASA, our International Partner agencies, other government and military interests, academia and industry, Once the stakeholders are identified the Execution begins. This is the process of designing missions that integrate all of the objectives of the various stakeholders into an executable mission complete with a timeline, procedures, flight rules, etc. It includes any necessary crew and support team training. My role is that of Mission Director, and as such I am responsible for the final timeline and support products (e.g., procedures), as well as the day to day execution and re-planning during the mission. After the mission(s) are over for the season, the Documentation phase begins. This includes ensuring stakeholders have all of their data, compiling results and lessons learned, and documenting what we did and how we did it. Show less Served as a Space Shuttle Systems instructor, Station Training Lead, and manager of the ISS Systems and the Chief Training Officer (CTO) Groups. Duties progressed from being a member of teams responsible for crew and flight control team training, to leading those training teams, to selecting and managing the instructors and CTOs of the future. The complex simulations I led could involve hundreds of people, multiple connected crewed simulators and control centers on different continents, I also several International Partner working groups which managed the content of crew training across the IPs of the ISS.
