  Assistant to teaching assistant (TA) for an undergraduate introductory biology course (BIS2C) at UC Davis. Facilitated laboratory periods by running lab stations, teaching class concepts, fielding questions, and explaining/demonstrating how to properly use laboratory equipment. Maintained a productive learning environment without sacrificing the students' curiosity or fun. Interfaced between the TA and students, clarifying the TA's instructions to the students and clarifying students' questions to the TA. Additionally, despite being an undergraduate myself, I was able to lead the class in such a way that I earned respect from the students as an authority on the subject matter, but still maintained friendly relationships with them.   Analyzed large sets of temperature data from lagoons at renewable natural gas (RNG) processing plant. Collaborated with manager to use findings to improve projection model for future RNG pipeline injection, resulting in 11% increase in accuracy of the model.Also handled compliance documents including downtime reports, environmental exceedance reports, affidavits, and bills of lading (BOLs). Opened a weekly meeting between the compliance team, plant operators, and programming team with summary of the status of BOLs, including an appraisal of problem BOLs and which team members were capable of making which fixes. Worked with colleagues to devise solutions to problems with BOL system. Greatly reduced number of problem BOLs by end of internship.Visited two RNG processing plants.Culminated internship with a 10 minute presentation to company executives about my work. Show less

  My job is to ensure that the new students have a smooth transition into college life at UC Davis. Orientation Leaders accomplish this by showing new students the many different resources the university offers, by fostering friendships through team-building exercises, getting the new students comfortable with the campus through guided campus tours, and taking them through scheduled programming including lessons on the principles of community, tips on managing the academic workload, and advice on maintaining good physical and mental health in college. I spend several days leading new students through orientation, and answering as many of their questions about college life as I can. Show less - Researched CCD4 gene knockout in wheat and conducted proteomic analysis of pistachio 10 hours each week.- Attended weekly lab meetings to discuss the state of the research, troubleshoot, refine processes, and conceptualize how the bench work related to the overarching research questions: 1. Can we increase the β-carotene content (a precursor to vitamin A) in wheat grains?2. Can we verify biomarkers for monitoring endodormancy in pistachio? - Conducted PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, nanodrop, plasmid DNA purification (miniprep), E. Coli transformation, DNA extraction from agarose gels, and DNA extraction from leaf tissue samples. - Handled liquid nitrogen for flash freezing leaf samples, potted plants, watered plants, germinated seeds on germination paper, and conducted other general lab tasks.
