Aug 1993 - Apr 2008Secondary Math EducatorAs a secondary mathematics educator, I have served as a valuable team member and leader of an innovative multidisciplinary/multiage teaching team. By leveraging technology, such as SMART boards and a classroom set of laptops, I have successfully enhanced student success in the classroom. I have also implemented strategies and approaches from the data-driven SEQUEL course, allowing me to effectively meet the needs of all students.Furthermore, I have been proactive in securing grant money to provide a classroom set of graphing calculators, which has further enhanced my data-driven approach to teaching math. In addition to teaching math during regular hours, I have also led an extra-curricular Precocious Math program. Through my collaborative efforts with a physical science teacher, I have helped students see points of intersection between subjects, resulting in great student success, especially with IEPs students who scored above the average of other 8th graders in the school on standardized tests.Due to my expertise in technology integration, I was chosen to be a Technology Integrator in the Classrooms for the Future initiative. Overall, my experience and dedication as a secondary mathematics educator have allowed me to help students achieve academic success through a variety of innovative and effective teaching strategies. Aug 2013 - nowI have been working in the field of learning design for over a decade, starting my career as an instructional designer at Penn State's World Campus Learning Design in April 2008. In this role, I worked with a team of faculty and multimedia specialists to design, develop, implement, and maintain online courses. The work was challenging, but I was dedicated to providing high-quality learning experiences to students.In July 2011, I was presented with an opportunity to further my career when I moved to the College of IST in the same role. I continued to collaborate with faculty and multimedia specialists, leveraging their expertise to design and develop innovative online courses.My commitment and hard work were recognized in January 2014 when I was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Learning Design and Innovation. This new role expanded my responsibilities to include management, and I was entrusted with overseeing the work of other instructional designers. I found this role to be both challenging and rewarding, and I enjoyed the opportunity to mentor and support other professionals in the field.In April 2016, I took on new challenges and responsibilities when I moved to the College of Health and Human Development. In this role, my team expanded, and my responsibilities grew to include a larger college. Despite the challenges, I continued to demonstrate my passion for learning design and a deep understanding of the needs of learners in a variety of contexts.Throughout my career, I have remained committed to staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in learning design. I believe in the power of education to transform lives, and I am proud to have contributed to the design and development of innovative online courses that provide students with high-quality learning experiences. Show less As an instructor in higher education, I have been able to successfully teach both online and face-to-face courses at the undergraduate level. My ability to engage students with varying approaches, including technology, has allowed me to consistently accomplish course goals with excellent responsiveness. I understand the importance of providing quality assessment of student work in a timely fashion, which has been appreciated by my students.To enhance student learning, I developed sets of extra practice problems with clear solutions in text and videos. These additional resources have helped students master the course material and achieve their academic goals. Additionally, I have implemented an interactive textbook (zyBooks) and utilized engagement strategies to gather student feedback, which has allowed me to continuously improve my teaching methods and increase student success.Overall, my experience as an instructor in higher education has been fulfilling and rewarding.
