  Secure care custody officer

  With G4S I was employed as a custody officer at Oakhill STC working on a one to one basis with the young offenders. I was working with England’s most challenging young people, many of them had come from broken families and poor backgrounds. Some of the children had mental health problems or learning difficulties. On a day to day basis I would be ensuring the strict centre regime was followed by all young people and quite often managing their challenging behavior. I worked with the young people on their offending behavior and actively tried to prevent them from re-offending upon their release. I used my conflict management skills to defuse situations daily and constantly needed to be vigilant in a dangerous and volatile environment.   Store detective

  My main responsibilities lied within Boots the Chemist situated in Hale leys Shopping Centre in Aylesbury. On a day to day basis my main activities included monitoring CCTV in order to oversee general shop wellbeing and the security of both employees and the general public. Whilst carrying this out I frequently patrolled the shop premises as a plain clothes officer to blend in with shop customers. By doing this I was able to react to any potential/suspicious behaviour enabling me to detect crime in progress and this led to me having a very high arrest rate. Occasionally I was required to investigate and gather evidence on staff members for theft and fraud and report my findings to the loss prevention manager. Within my time in the store, I reduced the stock loss from 3.5% down to 0.6% and was constantly looking at ways to improve security and reduce theft. I also ran weekly shrinkage meetings with the staff and store management and provide staff training.   Within my small team, we were responsible for approximately 800 sites and 3000 security officers from the Midlands right down to the south coast. I looked after the south of England but also covered other areas. I liaised with operation managers, security officers and clients to ensure that all sites were manned correctly and with the appropriate trained staff. I built up excellent working relationships with security officers all over the south of England. This was a very important part of my role because it meant I was able to find cover for sickness on sites at very short notice. I also created and input rotas onto the system for various sites in order to reduce the number of weekly gaps to source cover for. I worked under extreme pressure and to tight deadlines on a daily basis. I had to utilise all of my negotiation and problem solving skills and constantly had to think outside the box. My day did not finish when I left the office, I was always on the phone or replying to emails in order to solve problems. Show less
